August 22: Pa's Birthday


As it is our father's birthday today, I thought of reproducing the bio-data I found among his files after he died.  As a self-made document usually accompanying an application, a resume is, I think, the most reflective of how a person wants to be best viewed by the world.  Written in his medium-sized, angular and deeply impressed script, here is how our father placed, so to speak, his best foot forward ...

PERSONAL DATA: - Born on August 22, 1921 in Sta. Elena, Buhi, Camarines Sur; married to Maria T. Gascon, a public school teacher, and with whom he has seven (7) children, four girls and three boys.

EDUCATIONAL DATA: Finished his elementary education at the Buhi Elementary School in 1936 with honors; graduated high school from UNC (University of Nueva Caceres) in 1950 as an honored student; obtained the degree of Bachelor of Laws (Ll.B) from the UNC in 1957.  Throughout his college education, he was a working and self-supporting student.

EMPLOYMENT DATA: Contract and Service Clerk, Bicol Electric Co., Naga City (1954-1957); Chief of Police, Buhi, Camarines Sur (1960-1963) during the encumbency of Ex-Mayor Atty. Francisco C. Mendizabal; Provincial Guard, Camarines Sur Provincial Jail, Naga City (January to December 1964), Technical Assistant, Camarines Sur Provincial Governor's Office (1965-1967); Deputy Chief of Police, Buhi, Camarines Sur (1968); Municipal Secretary, Buhi, Camarines Sur (1969); Chief of Police, Buhi, Camarines Sur (1970 up to the present); NAPOLCOM Instructor, Bicol Regional Police Academy, Legaspi City (1971-1972)
